The 1st C G Kiran memorial lecture and symposium on Odonata, organised by the Society for Odonate Studies was held at the Academy of Climate Change Education and Research, Kerala Agricultural University. Dr P O Nameer, special officer of the hosting institution presided over the function. Sri Renjith Jacob Mathews, Secretary, Society for Odonate Studies reminisced how Sri C G Kiran had inspired the formation of the Society dedicated to the scientific study of dragonflies. Sri David Raju, Dr Francy Kakkassery, Dr Abraham Samuel and Sri Balachandran V shared their memories of the late odonatologist Sri C G Kiran.
Dr Subramanian K A, Scientist, Zoological Survey of India delivered the memorial lecture on the topic ‘Dragonflies for monitoring landscape health’. Sri Samuel Vanlalngheta Pachuau IFS launched the e-book on the Dragonflies of Kerala prepared by Sri Jeevan Jose. A brochure for identifying common dragonflies of Kerala and a study report on the dragonflies of Kole wetlands were also released during the function.
Sujith V Gopalan, Sri Renjith R V, Sri Vivek Chandran and Sri Muhamed Sherif presented various study reports of the Society. Sri Arun C G, brother of the late odontologist thanked the Society for organising the event and wished success for its future endeavours. Over 70 researchers, students and dragonfly enthusiasts participated in the function.
