Society for Odonate Studies conducted an Odonate Survey in the Vazhachal Forest Division, Thrissur, Kerala as part of the Assessment of Flood Impact on Biodiversity of Vazhachal forests. Three days long event was jointly organized by the Kerala Forest Department, Vazhachal Forest Division and Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation.
20 Volunteers from across the state participated in the survey, representing Society for Odonate Studies. The Survey Team was lead by Mr Renjith Jacob Mathews, Secretary, SOS and Mr Muhamed Sherif, Treasurer, SOS. A Total of 51 Species were recorded during the survey including 21 species of damselflies. Considering the fact that the survey was conducted at a time when odonata activity is very low in these parts of world, this data indicate high rate of Odonate Diversity of Vazhachal Forest.
