Mission 50 – Birds of Kerala

This is a list of 50 birds that has occured in other parts of India and can be termed as ‘possible’ in Kerala. The only intention of posting it here is to make good birders continue their excellent documentation across Kerala. There is a lot to be discovered still, particularly in passage season. Feel free to post it elsewhere too.

10. Barau’s Petrel : Pelagic during May-Sep
11. Chinese Pond Heron : Any wetland in Apr-May
12. Brown Booby : Pelagic
13. Sharp-tailed Sandpiper : Any wetland in Sep-Nov
14. Red-necked Stint : Any wetland in Apr-May
15. Red Phalarope : Any wetland in Apr-May
16. Little Gull : Any wetland in Apr-May
17. Franklin’s Gull : Coastal wetlands during Sep-Apr
18. White-eyed Gull : Coastal wetlands during Sep-Apr
19. Sooty Gull : Coastal wetlands during Sep-Apr
20. Mew Gull : Coastal wetlands during Sep-Apr
21. Caspian Gull : Coastal wetlands in Nov-Mar
22. Saunders’s Tern : Coastal wetlands in Apr-May

27. European Bee-eater : Wayanad, Attappady, Palakkad gap, Chinnar in Oct-Nov
28. Laggar Falcon : Periyar and adjoining areas
29. White-bellied Minivet : Attappady
30. Swinhoe’s Minivet : Anywhere during Feb-Mar
31. Rosy Minivet : Wayanad, Attappady, Chinnar woodlands in Nov-Mar
32. Black-winged Cuckooshrike : Wayanad, Attappady, Chinnar woodlands in Nov-Mar
33. Marshall’s Iora : Wayanad, Attappady, Chinnar woodlands
34. White-spotted Fantail : Wayanad & Attappady woodlands
35. Red-backed Shrike : Anywhere during Sep-Nov
36. Red-tailed Shrike : Anywhere during Sep-Nov
37. Black-breasted Weaver : Any wetland
38. Pale Rock Sparrow : Anywhere during Sep-Nov or Feb-Apr
39. White-naped Tit : Attappady
40. Indian Bushlark : Attappady
41. Sykes’s Lark : Palakkad gap, Attappady
42. Yellow-browed Warbler : Western Ghats during Nov-Mar
43. Sulphur-bellied Warbler : Wayanad, Attappady woodlands during Nov-Mar
44. Striped Tit Babbler : Wayanad & Attappady in bamboo breaks.
45. Common Babbler : Chinnar, Periyar edges of state border
46. Spotted Flycatcher : Anywhere during Sep-Nov
47. Dark-sided Flycatcher : Western Ghats during Nov-Feb
48. Blue-and-white Flycatcher : Western Ghats during Oct-Nov or Feb-Mar
49. Tickell’s Thrush : Western Ghats during Nov-Mar
50. Eyebrowed Thrush : Anywhere during Feb-Mar
